With industry-leading experience and expertise across all sectors, CPB Contractors knows that when innovation and the right tools combine, better analysis, decision making and forecasting are possible. Across its operations, CPB Contractors is leveraging its years of expertise and merging them with digital solutions that improve safety, mitigate risk and waste, and enhance performance.
A recent example of these benefits can be seen on Transport for NSW’s M12 Motorway Project in Western Sydney. Here, CPB Contractors, in partnership with EIC Activities, a fellow CIMIC Group company, has developed an innovative Mass Haul Planning Intelligent Earthworks Model from technology typically used in the mining sector.
The project team has supercharged its earthworks planning approach by incorporating survey, design and geotechnical data into a comprehensive, online 3D volumetric model and combining it with CPB Contractors’ own Project Data Structure.
CPB Contractors Planning and Controls Manager Chris Priestland explains that this solution has enhanced accuracy and optimised earthworks volumes by tracking progress against planned quantities and disseminating the information into Power BI reporting.
“To put it simply, our teams are using this tool to make more informed decisions… we know that the data we have is accurate, and it supports our honed approach to planning, ensuring on-time delivery for our clients”, says Chris.
The success of this approach is attributed to the collaboration between CPB Contractors and EIC Activities. CPB Contractors Group Manager Digital Engineering & Innovation Max Godley expands on this:
“The success of this innovative solution comes down to effective collaboration… we brought together CPB Contractors’ expertise – everything from surveying and geotechnics to planning and construction – with EIC Activities' geotechnical engineers and digital planning and data analytics experts to create a single source of truth”.
EIC Activities General Manager Simon Bowles delves further into the success of this project collaboration, highlighting the role of strong relationships and an innovation-centric approach.
“CPB Contractors and EIC Activities have a long history of working together to deliver best-fit solutions, and in this instance, we worked with tech vendor Deswik”, he shares.
“It was a true collaboration that took tech typically used for mining and modified it to work within complex, civil environments.”
With more than 90 years of construction and engineering expertise, CPB Contractors continues to embrace tools, systems and technology to enhance productivity and enable safer and more optimal work practices. Working together on projects across Australia and New Zealand for more than 10 years, CPB Contractors, EIC Activities and bespoke software vendors continue innovating how digital tools can enable safer, better solutions.
CPB Contractors is delivering the M12 Motorway West package in a joint venture. The delivery of this project includes the construction of a 6km dual carriageway motorway between The Northern Road, Luddenham, and 400 metres east of Badgerys Creek, along with the construction of 11 bridges and a grade-separated interchange connected with the Western Sydney International Airport.
