CPB Contractors, as part of the Rail Network Alliance, has completed its biggest Metro Tunnel Project trial yet, with a successful 10-day work blitz to start 2025.
Trains travelled a further 35,000 kilometres and made more than 2,600 trips as part of the project’s trial operations phase.
CPB Contractors Construction Manager Robert Raic shares details on this critical stage of the project, which will continue throughout this year.
“Our team will execute more than 100 ‘real-life scenario’ exercises to ensure that all systems and technology are fully optimised and ready for passengers”, adds Robert.
During commissioning, teams will complete a variety of scenarios, including the manual operation of platform screen doors, intruder detection protocols, and mass evacuation drills for both stations and trains.
Construction is also progressing on the final two stations, Town Hall and State Library, in Melbourne’s CBD.
CPB Contractors is part of an alliance delivering works for the Metro Tunnel Project. Works here include the design, supply, installation, testing, integration and commissioning activities for train and power control systems, operational control systems, and conventional and high-capacity signalling on the new Sunbury to Cranbourne/Pakenham line.
