CPB Contractors is making significant progress on the delivery of Perth’s METRONET Thornlie-Cockburn Link project, with the installation of rail tracks along the 26.5 km alignment progressing.
As part of this, the project team will place close to 72,000 tonnes of rail ballast and more than 35,000 sleepers, forming the foundation of the coming-soon electrified rail line between Jandakot and Beckenham.
Once substantial sections of the track are completed, the CPB Contractors team use specialised equipment to ensure precise alignment and levelling.
The project’s ongoing rail track installation was enabled by a number of other significant project achievements, including:
- relocation of significant underground services
- relocation of the freight rail lines to the northern half of the corridor to make room for the passenger lines in the southern half
- construction of retaining walls
- preparation of the rail formation
- installation of overhead line equipment masts
CPB Contractors, as part of the NEWest Alliance, is delivering the Yanchep Rail Extension and the Thornlie-Cockburn Link, including the construction of two new stations to provide Perth’s first cross line connection and improve public transport services to the city’s southern suburbs. The Yanchep Rail Extension extends the Joondalup line north from Butler to Yanchep and involves the construction of three new stations to support the area’s growing population.
