During the recent summer school holidays, CPB Contractors' West Gate Tunnel project team hosted more than 75 local parents and children for a series of fun and educational ‘West Gate Kids Open Days’ at the West Gate Tunnel Project Information Centre in Yarraville, Melbourne.
Led by renowned educator Dr. Loz, attendees took part in a science, technology, engineering, art, and maths (STEAM) session and then broke out into smaller groups with various hands-on infrastructure construction activities.
The interactive sessions delved into the world of construction through engaging activities such as:
- Rock painting activities that explained the workings of Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs)
- Transforming into virtual construction heroes in green screen photobooths
- Virtually constructing their own TBMs using a specially designed, gamified program.
This initiative builds upon CPB Contractors' longstanding commitment to building a skills legacy. Launched in 2018, CPB Contractors has played a key role in bringing the West Gate Kids program on behalf of the West Gate Tunnel Project to over 10,000 students at 102 schools in Melbourne's west. The program aims to give eager young minds the opportunity to explore large infrastructure projects and the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).
