CPB Contractors, as part of the Fleurieu Connections Alliance (FCA) delivering the Department of Infrastructure and Transport’s Main South Road Duplication 2 Project, continue to build skills that encourage more conversations about mental health.
To date, over 300 team members across the project have taken part in mental health literacy training through Mates in Construction (MIC). The project team was also recently awarded an accreditation from MIC, acknowledging the number of team members on the project who have accessed the training.
CPB Contractors Senior Project Manager Andrew Coonan shares more about the team’s commitment to encouraging mental health conversations:
“At CPB Contractors, safety and wellbeing underpin everything that we do and I am really proud to see how our team is banding together to support more education on mental health. Our crews took MIC’s annual Fly the Flag event really seriously and came together to raise more than $3,000… these funds will enable more critical training to be delivered across the construction sector.”
Andrew notes that mental health conversations on FCA sites have become more frequent since team members completed the MIC training.
CPB Contractors’ delivery of this project involves the construction of a six-kilometre road duplication between Aldinga Road and Sellicks Beach Road, along with urban design, services installation, staging or temporary works, construction of civil and structures, including a new interchange at Aldinga, installation of road monitoring cameras and variable message sign boards, and landscaping.
Along with project-based training, CPB Contractors has more than 120 Mental Health first aiders across its projects, sites and offices and provides free support services to all employees and their immediate families through a voluntary and confidential Employee Assistance Program as part of the CIMIC Group.
