Currently under delivery in Melbourne, Victoria, the West Gate Tunnel Project recently completed all construction works on a 2.5km cable stay bridge over Footscray Road – the first elevated cycleway in Australia.
Delivered by CPB Contractors in a joint venture, the striking green bridge forms part of the project’s pedestrian and cyclist connections, which will provide safer and more efficient walking and riding options in Docklands and Melbourne City.
CPB Contractors’ delivery of the green bridge included civil and drainage works, bridge girder and support cable installation, pylon installation and bridge construction.
The project delivery team has now commenced the installation of cladding, lighting and safety barriers.
CPB Contractors is working with Transurban and the Victorian Government to deliver Victoria’s West Gate Tunnel Project in a joint venture. Design and construction works include:
- Widening the West Gate Freeway from eight lanes to 12 between the M80 Ring Road and Williamstown Road
- A 2.8km eastbound tunnel and a 4km westbound tunnel under Yarraville
- A new bridge over the Maribyrnong River providing an alternative to the West Gate Bridge
- An elevated road along Footscray Road to the Port of Melbourne, CityLink and the city’s north, and major new cycling and pedestrian path
